KUCHING, Nov 30: The Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth Central Committee has unanimously agreed that its new chief, Christopher Gira Sambang, be considered for appointment as a deputy minister, citing precedent as his predecessor also served as deputy minister and the need for youth leadership representation to ensure policy continuity.

In a statement, this followed the committee’s second meeting held on Saturday (Nov 29), which also saw it adopting several other key resolutions regarding the recent constitutional development in Sarawak.

The committee also expressed full support for the Constitution of the State of Sarawak (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which raises the number of ministers in the State Cabinet from 10 to 14.

“PRS further proposes one additional full ministership and two to three additional deputy ministerships to boost policy execution, especially in rural and interior constituencies where PRS represents large, diverse communities.

“Enhanced representation for PRS in the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government will enable more efficient decision‑making, faster development interventions, and a stronger voice for rural Sarawakians across the Sarawak Cabinet,” it said.

“This reflects the government’s commitment to strengthen administrative capacity, improve policy delivery, and prepare Sarawak for emerging economic and development challenges—especially in fast‑growing rural regions.”

The committee also said that PRS, as a component party of GPS, reaffirms steadfast support for Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s leadership and the State’s long‑term development agenda.

“PRS Youth reaffirms unwavering support for the GPS government’s vision of a stronger, inclusive, and progressive Sarawak.

“Expanded Cabinet capacity coupled with increased youth leadership participation will elevate governance and deliver greater development outcomes for all Sarawakians.”
