KUCHING, Aug 4: Be more sensitive in making decision about transferring problematic policemen to Sarawak, says Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) youth chief Datuk Snowdan Lawan.
Referring to a recent news report which revealed that nine policemen would be sent to Sabah and Sarawak while undergoing investigation for alleged involvement in extortion, Snowdan in a statement today opined that Sarawak is in much greater need of officers of quality who have integrity, are result-oriented and are highly disciplined to propel and accelerate State’s development.
“Politically, we have enough of what’s been imported from there. It would better for the said federal agency to liaise with Sarawak authorities prior to making a unilateral decision like this.
“Act in a government-to-government (G2G) manner, and perhaps Sarawak immigration autonomy should be in line of duty in this case,” he said.
Yesterday (Aug 3), the Sarawak State Secretary’s Office in a statement said the Sarawak Police Commissioner’s Office has confirmed that none of the nine police officers under investigation for alleged involvement in the extortion case in Selangor have reported themselves to the Sarawak Police Contingent.
Snowdan, who is also Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, questioned the rationale for sending problematic civil servants to Sarawak.
“What good would it do for Sarawak besides being perceived as a dumping ground for problematic staff with disciplinary issues? Why Sarawak or Sabah? What’s the rationale?,” he asked.
Snowdan also opined that problematic civil servants don’t deserve rehabilitation and should be sacked as their mindsets are no longer about serving the country and the people. — DayakDaily
