KUCHING, Oct 26: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth exco members have unanimously agreed for all of the party’s posts to be held in an open contest in the upcoming Triennial Delegate Conference (TDC).

PRS Youth Exco member and Youth Publicity Chief Audie Samuel Lawen said this is because, in party elections, democratic principle empowers grassroots delegates to choose leaders who resonate with their ideas, fostering a diversity of ideas and ensuring accountability.

“As such, PRS Youth Exco has, in its meeting yesterday (Oct 25), unanimously agreed that the upcoming TDC be held in an open contest.

“This is to let the grassroots members choose the most credible person to lead the party so that the party remains relevant,” he said in a press statement today.

Audie said the same message was shared by its youth chief, Datuk Snowdan Lawan, and it was discussed in the Supreme Council meeting today.

He also said that recently, the sentiments at the grassroots or even at the State level is that PRS has been perceived as being quiet and seems content in its comfort zone and far from its dynamism.

The perception, according to him, doesn’t fare well for a party which was once considered a voice for the rural people under the leadership of the late Tan Sri James Jemut Masing.

“There seems to be a huge gap and contrast in leadership undertakings now. For that matter, an open contest for all posts would be seen as a likely possibility for the party to rejuvenate in the next TDC.

“Nonetheless, we subscribe to the fact that the party’s momentum is still intact. The next TDC, when due by the first quarter of 2025, shall be an event the Supreme Council delves into as an affair too important to ignore in order for the party to rejuvenate and remain relevant,” he added. — DayakDaily
