KUCHING, July 3: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Women’s wing held a “Jom! Sedia” programme to kick-start their ground preparations for the forthcoming 15th General Election (GE15) at Rh Jelendai in Skrang, Lubok Antu on Friday (July 1).

PRS Women chief Dato Sri Doris Brodie said the party has about 11 months to prepare for the election before the current 14th parliamentary term ends.

However, it is still up to the Prime Minister Dato Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Yang Di-Pertuan Agong to decide on the actual date.

“The party’s Women’s wing will go to all six parliamentary constituencies assigned to PRS to further consolidate ground support, especially amongst women voters for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

“We kick-start at the parliamentary constituency of Lubok Antu today (July 1) and then to Kanowit, Julau, Hulu Rejang, Selangau and Sri Aman,” she said during the programme, which 300 people attended.

She further informed that following the implementation of automatic voter registration effective Jan 1 this year, the country has approximately 5.8 million new voters, of which 1.2 million are those aged 18 to 21.

“Hence, we cannot rest on our laurels,” she added.

Doris also mentioned that PRS lost in three constituencies in the last GE14, including Lubok Antu, which the party aims to win this coming GE15.

“I recalled the words of our late party president, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing, in early 2019 to my Women’s wing that we must wrestle back the seats that we have lost and that we must not be complacent.

“We must work hard to woo voters, especially women, as women are kingmakers in almost all PRS parliamentary constituencies. With regards, our Women’s wing will strive to give our best for PRS and GPS,” said Doris.

Those who also spoke at the function were the Wing’s deputy chief Cr Roseline Neging, secretary Cr Misiah Abdullah, chairman of PRS Engkilili Division Cr Roy Dato Gingkoi and Tuai Rumah Jelendai. — DayakDaily
