KUCHING, Oct 21: PRS will play supporting roles for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) component parties, particularly in Bawang Assan which is traditionally contested by SUPP, during the upcoming 12th state election (PRN12) which is due soon.
Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing said the party is ready to rally its support behind Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) during the next state election, which he predicted will be held by the end of this year.
“We agreed that due to the time factor, we will go to the constituencies which belong to PRS.
“We will take the lead and hopefully the other GPS parties will follow us.
“But, we will not lead (sic) to areas where we have no interest, for example to areas held by Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), SUPP and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).
“But we will follow and these parties must lead and we will become backup only.
“We will support but leading must be the party who owns the seats,” he told DayakDaily after chairing the PRS supreme council meeting at the party’s headquarters here today.
Masing who is the Deputy Chief Minister pointed out that it is important for the GPS component party which traditionally contests the seat to play a proactive role in leading the charge for PRN12. — DayakDaily
