KAPIT, Oct 20: Ahead of its Triennial Delegates Conference (TDC) next year, the Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) leadership has to consider between reaching a consensus or holding an open contest for the party’s top position.

PRS Bukit Goram Division chairman Andy Lawrence noted that the party has a long-standing tradition of holding open contests for all party positions.

However, during the tenure of the late Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing, the presidency remained uncontested due to his strong support and the absence of other nominations.

“Following Masing’s sudden passing, the party unanimously endorsed Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum as president during the last TDC, a decision made out of deep respect.

“As we approach the 2025 TDC, the party remains open to the possibility of contested elections for all positions, depending on the nominations received,” he told DayakDaily after attending the “Warga Emas Sihat, Komuniti Sejahtera” programme held at Rh Wiliam Ubu, Antaroh, Kapit, recently.

Nevertheless, he emphasised that the key focus for PRS continues to be maintaining unity and advancing the interests of Sarawak. — DayakDaily
