KANOWIT, Oct 7: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Ngemah division has reaffirmed its support for incumbent assemblyman Anyi Jana to defend the N.49 Ngemah seat under the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS)-PRS banner in the upcoming 13th Sarawak Election.
The support was among several resolutions unanimously adopted during the PRS Ngemah Division Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2026 held at Tong Cheng Restaurant here on Tuesday (Oct 6).
In a statement issued on its social media following the meeting, the division said Anyi received the full backing of its leadership, grassroots members, Women’s Wing and Youth Wing to continue representing the constituency.
The AGM was chaired by Anyi, who is also chairman of the PRS Ngemah division.
“The views and aspirations of the grassroots membership must be respected in any process related to candidate selection.
“The division strongly rejects and opposes any nomination of a GPS-PRS candidate for N.49 Ngemah who is neither a member of the PRS Ngemah division nor a registered voter in the constituency,” it said.
Besides reaffirming support for Anyi, the division also pledged its full support to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, describing the move as a reflection of its commitment to continue supporting the leadership of GPS and the State’s development agenda.
Delegates also expressed unanimous support for PRS president Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai, who is also Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department and Kakus assemblyman.
On youth development, the division highlighted the need to expand opportunities for young people through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), scholarships and employment initiatives.
“Such efforts would enable more local youths to build their futures within the constituency while reducing the need to migrate to urban centres in search of education and employment opportunities,” it highlighted.
The division described the resolutions adopted during the AGM as its official position and a reflection of the unity between its leadership and grassroots members.
It added that it would continue to strengthen party unity, safeguard grassroots interests and ensure that the voices of members and residents in N.49 Ngemah remain heard as the State election approaches.
“PRS Ngemah stands firmly with the party leadership and grassroots members. The decisions and views of the division should not be taken lightly when determining the future of N.49 Ngemah constituency,” it added.
PRS Ngemah deputy chairman Ramba Resand, secretary Juat Jagok, treasurer Soraiman Bennet Ringgit, Women chief Cr. Mutang Karani, and Youth chief Cr. Stenny Willis Jenggi were among those present. — DayakDaily
