KUCHING, March 21: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) held Lab Pewaris for participants aged between 18 and 28 recently with an eye on forming a new wing called Pewaris PRS.
The result of the discussion will be presented to the PRS Supreme Council before it is discussed during PRS’ Triennial Delegates Conference on April 24 in Sibu.
Baleh assemblyman, Nicholas Kudi, who is also the chairman for Lab Pewaris, said in his speech that the participants were there to make Pewaris PRS a part of Parti Rakyat Sarawak constitution.
Lab Pewaris which was held on March 19 from 8am to 5pm at a local hotel here, was attended by a total of 100 participants from each State constituency and parliamentary seat currently represented by PRS as well as from active youth organisations, and associations.
The session started with an opening speech from PRS’s Youth chief Datuk Snowdan Lawan and a speech by the Women’s chief Dato Sri Dories Sophia Brodie. Senator Rita Insol closed the session.
Among those present were Ngemah assemblyman Anyi Jana, Sibu Rural District Council chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai and PRS Youth member Charles Chad Nissom who is also a political secretary to the Sarawak Premier.
“PRS Supreme Council during their meeting discussed the importance of people from age 18 to 28-years-old, and this matter is to be approached holistically and with more focus, and that is why this lab is organised,” said Doris during her speech.
She also disclosed that when PRS was formed 18 years ago, it was very inclusive as even 18-year-olds could be a part of PRS back then.
Meanwhile, Pewaris PRS Lab secretary Daniel Batin said the lab aimed to provide a platform for the youth to share their ideas and opinions as well as political inspiration which the party central will take into account as these youth represent the next generation of PRS leaders.
As the lab participants comprised youths from interior as well as urban areas, organiser of Pewaris Lab Roy Gingkoi who is also PRS Engkilili Division chief believed that it was also an excellent platform for them to interact with each other and share their life experiences.
“Youths from the interior want to experience how it is like for youths from the city and youths from the city want to experience how it is like for youths from the interior.
“In short, this lab was also a way to bring youths from around Sarawak together to exchange their experiences,” said Roy. — DayakDaily
