KUCHING, Oct 18: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) welcomes Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim back to Parliament after being on hiatus for 20 years from politics, much of which was to serve jail time after being convicted for sodomy.

Its president, Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing, said he was confident Anwar would bring with him maturity in debates and the spirit of justice to all Malaysians.

He hoped with Anwar’s return, a dawn of fairness would emerge.

“There will be, we hope, no selective prosecution against those who have done wrong regardless of political affiliation in this country,” said Masing.

However, Masing said what piqued his mind was when Anwar’s wife, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, said her husband’s return to Parliament was made possible after he obtained a pardon on the basis of miscarriage of justice.

“The question is, who was responsible for the miscarriage of justice?” Masing asked.

Last month, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad denied being the mastermind behind Anwar’s imprisonment, saying it was the court’s decision, not his.

“Well, I don’t know about regretting, but at that time, it was done by a court of law. The trial lasted nine months. All kinds of evidence was produced, and the court decided.

“It’s not me! So people will blame me for that, but I don’t interfere with the courts,” he said during an interview with The Wall Street Journal last month. — DayakDaily
