PRS advises Pas to keep its Islamic agenda out of Sarawak

Tan Sri James Masing

KUCHING, March 9: PRS wants Pas to keep its Islamic agenda out of Sarawak in view that Sarawak is multiracial and multi-religious.

According to PRS president Tan Sri James Masing in a statement today, this is essential for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to work well within the Perikatan Nasional (PN) context.

“Sarawak is a multiracial and multi religious State. We have lived in peace socially and religiously for generations. Therefore, I would advise Pas (Parti Islam Se-Malaysia) not to push their Islamic agenda to Sarawak if PN wants Sarawak to be a good coalition partner in administering Malaysia,” he asserted.

Masing who is also Deputy Chief Minister also requested Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to consider Sarawak’s interests first and appoint Sarawakian MPs to the portfolios that serve Sarawak best.

He emphasised that Sarawak deserved that much for the support it has lent to Muhyiddin.

Masing also expressed belief that Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg had informed Muhyiddin what would be the most suitable portfolios for Sarawak MPs to take up.

“Since GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) is the lynchpin which puts Tan Sri Muhyiddin as the prime minister and stabilised Malaysian politics, I would request the prime minister to consider Sarawak’s interests first.

“YAB Abang Johari had, I believed, whispered what are Sarawak’s immediate requests. I shall not repeat them publicly here.

“In terms of ministerial priority, I hope Sarawak lawmakers are given ministries which will serve Sarawak’s needs,” Masing added.

Muhyiddin is expected to announce his cabinet line-up at 5pm today at the Prime Minister’s Office in Putrajaya. — DayakDaily
