KUCHING, July 21: Displaying the Sarawak flag is a simple yet meaningful way for Sarawakians to express their pride, identity and love for the State, said Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng.
Wee said the Sarawak flag is more than just a State symbol, as it represents the identity and spirit of the people of Sarawak.
“To love Sarawak is a beautiful thing, but that love must be shown through our actions. One simple way is by proudly displaying the Sarawak flag at our homes, business premises and vehicles,” he said in a statement today.
This followed MBKS’ annual Sarawak flag distribution programme along Jalan Padungan this morning, where he was joined by councillors and council officers in handing out flags to motorists ahead of Sarawak Day celebrations tomorrow (July 22).
The annual programme aims to encourage the public to proudly fly the Sarawak flag at their homes, business premises and vehicles as a symbol of unity, pride and love for Sarawak.
Wee said a true Sarawakian carries the Sarawak spirit in the heart and urged the public to continue cherishing and protecting the values that make the State unique.
“We must be proud of our Sarawak, love Sarawak wholeheartedly, and work together to protect and preserve everything that makes Sarawak special for our future generations,” he urged.
At the same time, he invited the public to participate in the 722 Walk, which will be held tomorrow at MBKS Boulevard beginning at 6.30am.
The walk is jointly organised by MBKS, Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) and Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) as part of the Sarawak Day celebration and is open to people of all ages.
“I hope every Sarawakian will proudly fly the Sarawak flag and join us at the 722 Walk as we celebrate our unity, our identity and our love for Sarawak.
“I invite everyone to come with your family and friends. Wear your Sarawak colours, bring along the Sarawak flag, and walk together with thousands of fellow Sarawakians,” he said.
Wee stressed that Sarawak Day should be celebrated not only through words but also through participation and unity.
“Every flag we display reflects our pride in Sarawak. Every step we take during the 722 Walk reflects our love and commitment to our Sarawak. Together, let us celebrate Sarawak Day with one spirit, one heart and one Sarawak,” he added.
He also thanked motorists for their warm response to the flag distribution programme and expressed hope that more Sarawakians would proudly display the Sarawak flag throughout the Sarawak Day celebrations.
Wee said he looks forward to seeing Sarawakians gather at MBKS Boulevard tomorrow morning to celebrate Sarawak Day together and further strengthen the spirit of unity, harmony and pride that makes Sarawak truly unique. — DayakDaily
