KUCHING, Feb 17: A salesman who was charged with posting defamatory messages on a Facebook account by the name of ‘Hui Tai Lang’ against Padungan assemblyman Wong King Wei was discharged and acquitted here today.
Magistrate Nuruhuda Mohd Yusof ruled that the accused be acquitted and discharged without calling for his defence. as the prosecution has failed to prove a prima facie case against the accused under Section 500 of the Penal Code.
“Hui Tai Lang” whose real name is Chin Siaw Hong, 50, was charged under Section 500 of the Penal Code for posting defamatory messages and images via the said Facebook account on December 9, 2018, at about 12.54pm.
Upon investigation, the police found the post shared by “Hui Tai Lang” to be untrue and charged the account holder under Section 500 of the Penal Code.
Upon conviction, he faced a sentence of imprisonment for up to two years or with fine, or both. — DayakDaily
