Proposed RM250 mln Jalan Stephen Yong-FRC Matang road to ease traffic

KUCHING, March 15: The proposed construction of the Jalan Stephen Yong-FRC Matang road here would help to address traffic issues in Batu Kawa, said Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Batu Kawa branch acting chairman Lim Ah Ted.

Lim in a press statement today, said the project proposal was made by Batu Kawah assemblyman Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian in efforts to improve the traffic conditions in Batu Kawa.

“Dr Sim has proposed for a RM250 million funding from the Sarawak government to construct a new 9.5 kilometre route from Jalan Stephen Yong road traffic light junction to the FRC Matang road, to ease the traffic. The project is currently under designing phase,” he said.


According to Lim, the proposed project is one of the projects being carried out through the Sarawak government’s funding requested by Dr Sim.

Apart from that, he said, Dr Sim also requested for the RM120 million funds from the Sarawak government to implement the comprehensive flood mitigation projects in Batu Kawa areas that had been carried out since last year, to improve the flood issue in seven flood prone areas in Batu Kawa.

“The seven comprehensive flood mitigation project’s areas are in Batu Kawa Road lorong 1c and 3, Sg. Moyan, Sg. Surih, Field Force Road, Ketitir Road, RPR area and Kampung Sinar Budi, including the drainage upgrading project which is also in progress for Taman Desa  Ilmu,” he noted. — DayakDaily
