KUCHING, Sept 19: The proposed policy and framework of the Parliamentary Services Bill 2023 has received positive reactions from Members of the Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara.
Dewan Negara president Tan Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said he has briefed them on the matter during a dinner held at Parliament on Monday (Sept 18).
“In general, the proposed Parliamentary Services Act Bill has received a positive reaction from them and they very much welcome this step to realise the concept of the separation of powers in Malaysia.
“Next, this Bill can implement the requirements of the Federal Constitution to clearly uphold the institution of the Malaysian Parliament that is independent of the government’s Executive branch.
“Insya-Allah, we hope this Bill can be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat session in October,” he said in a statement today.
The Parliamentary Services Act will give more independence to Parliament by creating a new Act to replace the Houses of Parliament (Privileges and Powers) Act 1952. — DayakDaily
