MIRI, July 23: Sarawak Minister for Transport, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, disclosed that a proposal aimed at protecting the Lutong Beach shoreline, has been submitted to the federal government.

“It is a long-term goal of preventing wave erosion and safeguarding the Lutong coastal road from damage,” Lee said.

The proposal also addresses the recurring issue of sea debris washing ashore during king tides.

“We have already brought this matter to the federal government for further action,” Lee stated during a site visit to the Kuala Batu 1 fishermen market on Tuesday.

Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Sarawak prepared the proposal, which has received preliminary approval from federal authorities.

“They have agreed in principle to undertake an engagement project as a long-term solution to this problem,” Lee explained.

Furthermore, Lee highlighted that he has personally discussed the issue with Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof, who also serves as the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA).

Although the project has been approved in principle, the exact cost has yet to be determined. — DayakDaily
