KUCHING, April 28: The proposed amendment to Article 1(2) of the Federal Constitution will be debated in the coming State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting next week.

Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Parliamentary Whip Chief Datuk Fadillah Yusof said this is so that Sarawak MPs, especially those from GPS, would be able to plan their next move when the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) for the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) is set up by the federal government.

“We will table and debate about this in the coming DUN because DUN represents the voice of Sarawak. From there we would be able to plan our next move.

“We (GPS MPs) will also be discussing with Sabah because this (MA63 PSC) also involves them,” he told reporters after attending the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Supreme Council Meeting at its headquarters here this morning.

When asked on when will the PSC be set up, he said most likely it would be during the Parliament sitting in June.

“This would certainly play an important role in refining whatever proposed amendments to the Federal Constitution.

“But more importantly, the amendment must also include what we have been demanding and discussing during the Steering Committee, and the elements of MA63 and the Inter-Government Committee (IGC) report must be the core of the amendments,” said Fadillah.

As for the composition of the PSC, he said he would not know because this would be the jurisdiction of the federal government. — DayakDaily
