KUCHING, May 16: Prominent Bidayuh politician and community leader Datuk Amar Dominic Andrew Dago Randan passes away at 91 years old at 4am at his village home at Kampung Pichin, Serian.
Dago was one of the founder members of Malaysia for being instrumental in persuading the Bidayuh community to accept the proposal of Sarawak joining Malaya to form the Federation of Malaysia.
Immediately following the nation’s formation, he was elected Member of Parliament for Serian and also served as a member of Ulu Sadong Council Negri under the Bumiputera Alliance which became Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB).
After serving one term as both MP and assemblyman, he retired from politics and was later appointed as Temenggong.
Before entering politics, Dago had a career in education and was once a dedicated teacher.
According to close relatives, the wake will be held at his home at Kampung Pichin, Serian followed by the funeral, which will be held on Monday. — DayakDaily
