KUCHING, Apr 13: The project to deepen the location of the pontoon at Sarikei Terminal One Jetty in Sarikei will be implemented soon, said Minister of Transport Sarawak (MOTS) Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin.

According to a TVS news report, Lee stated that this was due to his party detecting a problem with the water depth in the area, which made landing difficult, especially when the water level receded.

He also stated that it caused damage to the pontoon and was unsafe to use.

“The project to deepen the pontoon location is necessary because it is currently very shallow. Everything needs to be fixed,” he said while surveying the pier on Wednesday (Apr 12).

The terminal jetty’s pontoons were previously reported to be frequently damaged, causing concern among users and boat operators operating from Tanjung Manis, Daro, and Pulau Bruit.

Additionally, Lee mentioned that a tender for the project will be issued in order to obtain information on the project’s implementation costs.

Meanwhile, with Hari Raya Aidilfitri fast approaching, he reminded passenger boat operators to always prioritise safety.

“This includes making sure their boats are in good condition and providing enough life jackets,” he said. — DayakDaily
