KUCHING, Feb 24: More Amanah Saham Bumiputera (ASB) dividend will be distributed to the people, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He said this is part of the government’s progressive approach of targeted subsidies or taxation structures to protect the less fortunate.
“87 per cent of members with savings of less than RM30,000 were given a dividend of 5.1 sen per unit, while, savings that exceed 30 thousand ringgit received a dividend of 4.6 cents per unit,” he said when tabling the revised Budget 2023 in the Dewan Rakyat today.
Apart from that, he said, electricity tariffs will remain the same for all domestic consumers and small medium enterprises (SMEs) while the tariffs for all large companies has been increased except for the food and agriculture sector.
He also said at the moment, the government has no plans to implement a broad-based consumption tax such as the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
“In a situation where most people are still struggling, food inflation is over 5 per cent, wage rates are still low, it turns out that now is not the right time and place to introduce and implement it,” he added. — DayakDaily
