MIRI, Oct 5: The price of imported subsidised white rice for a 10kg bag in Miri has seen a reduction to RM31 per bag, according to a statement by Miri MP Chiew Choon Man.

Chiew conducted a survey at three supermarkets in Miri today and found that the retail price of the subsidised imported white rice has become more affordable following government intervention measures to address rising white rice prices.

The price of imported white rice had previously increased to RM3,200 per metric tonne from RM2,350 per metric tonne, as announced by Padiberas Nasional Berhad (Bernas) in September.

Chiew conducted surprise inspections of white rice prices at supermarkets in the Riam area and within the town, emphasising the importance of ensuring that essential food items remain accessible to the public.
