KUCHING, June 14: A Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) assemblyman reminded Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) that issuing press statements or calling of press conferences will not solve issues.
Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap said DAP MPs and their assistants are part of the unity government and their role, among others, is to contribute in a positive manner and represent effectively by raising people’s concerns to the relevant authorities and applying or securing the necessary funding to solve various issues without giving excuses or engaging in blame games.
“DAP MPs as part and parcel of the unity government should be aware that most problems cannot be solved through just calling a press conference or issuing press statements but through following up on the various problems raised with realistic and appropriate actions done to solve the problems.
“If problems can be solved just by a press conference or press statement blaming the government or assemblyman, then there is no more need for the people to elect a MP to serve them,” said Yap in a statement today.
Meanwhile, Yap together with Sarawak Public Works Department (Sarawak JKR) officers today handed over Balai Raya Kampung Sungai Tapang to contractor Syarikat Pembinaan Sampun Maju for upgrading and repairs.
The RM100,000 contract sum for the project is channeled from Yap’s Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) fund for Kota Sentosa constituency.
Kampung Sungai Tapang residents had earlier requested Yap for assistance as the condition of the Balai Raya was not satisfactory due to lack of funding for the last 16 years and it was in serious need of repairs.
The scope of works for the contract includes electrical wiring, roofing repairs, roller shutters, rainwater gutters and also renovation of the existing toilets and kitchen.
During the handover ceremony which was attended by Temenggong Tan Joo Poi, Penghulu Jakup Buan, longhouse chief Luha Bunggom and Kapitan Lee Tho Fung, Yap reminded the contractor to work closely with implementing agency Sarawak JKR to ensure the project can be completed within the 16-week timeframe by Sept 11, 2023.
On another matter raised by the villagers concerning damage to Jalan Kampung Sungai Tapang caused by the contractor of a nearby federal funded road project, Yap said he had contacted JKR and their feedback is that the mobilization of machinery for the repair works is scheduled on June 20, 2023 and the repair works is scheduled for completion by June 24, 2023. — DayakDaily
