KUCHING, Feb 20: Preschoolers, Standard One and Standard Two students nationwide will start attending physical classes on March 1, 2021.
Senior Minister of Education Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin made the announcement during a live streaming session on the Education Ministry (KPM)’s Facebook page yesterday (Feb 19).
“For all students in preschools, Standard One and Two in the whole Malaysia, they will have to return to schools starting March 1, 2021.
“Other students in Standard Three to Standard Six will start their classes on March 8, 2021,” he said.
On the reason why the younger students were to start a week earlier, Radzi explained that it is for them to get used to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in schools.
He added this decision by KPM is also to provide space for the teachers together with parents to find the best method for after-school dismissal.
As for secondary students, those from Johor, Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah which has been categorised as Group A will start going to schools starting April 4, 2021.
Group B which is for the students in other states, Radzi said, will need to attend classes starting April 5, 2021.
He also noted the later dates for secondary students to go back to schools is due to the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations that are commencing on Feb 22.
“On Monday (Feb 22), the SPM examinations will start in Malaysia.
“The SPM exams this year is different, the implementation methods are different from previous years.
“SOPs for the examinations are very detailed and strict to ensure that the students can sit for their exams in a calm and safe manner,” said Radzi. āDayakDaily
