“This year also marked Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s (GPS) collaboration with the Unity government which is a crucial step towards fostering stability in Sarawak’s business and economy, particularly in the face of global post-Covid-19 uncertainties.

“Moreover, Premier’s commitment to reclaiming autonomy under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) is evident through Sarawak’s representation in the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) and ongoing efforts to gain control over critical sectors such as Bintulu Port, education, and healthcare,” he said.

The imposition of State Sales Tax on petroleum and petroleum products was highlighted as a significant contributor to the Sarawak’s gross income, reaching nearly RM12 billion in 2023 and positioned the State as Malaysia’s highest-earning region.

Sim also touched on the Post-Covid Development Strategy (PCDS) that aims to double Sarawak’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and propel the State towards developed status by 2030.
