KUCHING, July 30: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is willing to provide additional funding support for 46 Sarawak secondary school principals to attend a national education management conference in Kuala Lumpur this September.
He said opportunities for educators to gain knowledge, exchange best practices and strengthen professional networks were important in developing Sarawak’s education ecosystem.
Speaking at the 61st Sarawak Secondary School Principals Management Conference in Sibu today, Abang Johari said he was prepared to assist if additional funds were needed for the principals’ participation.
“If you want to go to Kuala Lumpur, go ahead. If there is not enough funding, we will add a little more.
“Because you teachers go there to seek knowledge and also build synergy in developing our education,” he said in a speech recording later shared with DayakDaily.
His remarks came after Sarawak Secondary School Principals Association (PPSMS) president Ujai Sambau said the association would be sending 46 principals to the national-level Malaysian School Principals Management Conference from Sept 12 to 15.
Ujai said the delegation would require an estimated cost of almost RM100,000, adding that additional funding was also needed for professional development programmes among school leaders.
He also expressed appreciation to Abang Johari for approving a RM150,000 allocation to support the organisation of the 61st Sarawak Secondary School Principals Management Conference. — DayakDaily
