KUCHING, June 13: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg hopes that the price of electric vehicles (EVs) will decrease so that more people can afford them.
Speaking during the opening ceremony of International Energy Week 2023 (IEW23) held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here today, he said he managed to see the EV cars, describing them as “not bad” but pointed out that the manufacturer should reduce its price.
At a press conference after the event, he explained that there had been many improvements in EV production.
“I witnessed one car just now (which) is only about RM140,000 per unit, of course, produced by China using electrical energy.
“That will be affordable for our consumers to use this car that will reduce carbon emission.
“It is in line with Sarawak’s policy to reduce carbon emission at least by 600,000 tonnes per annum, and with this transition towards clean energy, that means we (Sarawak) are contributing to the world in our effort to mitigate carbon emission,” he stated.
Amongst those present during the event were Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian; Minister of Transport Sarawak, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin; Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak, Datuk Julaihi Narawi; Deputy Minister of Economy Malaysia, Dato Hanifah Hajar Taib; Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Sarawak, Dr Hazland Abang Hipni; and Ambassador of the Republic of Korea in Malaysia, Yeo Seung-bae. — DayakDaily
