Premier urges Senate members to continue prioritising State’s interests

KUCHING, Feb 1: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has emphasised the importance of members of the Senate from Sarawak to consistently prioritise and safeguard the interests of the State.

As per a news report from TVS today, Senator Dato Ahmad Dato Sri Ibrahim stated that this was one of the Premier’s messages to the members of the Senate when he paid a courtesy call on Abang Johari at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.

He went on to say that his party was prepared to play an important role in safeguarding Sarawak’s interests, as outlined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).


“If we need help in terms of legislation, we will request help from the Sarawak Premier’s Department because there are some conditional laws that we are not fluent in (such as) in terms of understanding and translation,” he was quoted as saying by TVS.

In addition, Ahmad Ibrahim who is also Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Batu Kawah branch chief, noted that the purpose of the courtesy visit was to apply for allocations for his area.

The courtesy visit also aims to express appreciation to the Premier for the appointment of the first Orang Ulu Senator, Michael Mujah Lihan, who was sworn in as a member of the Senate on Dec 11, 2023.
