KUCHING, Aug 16: The Regional Islamic Da’wah Council of Southeast Asia and the Pacific (RISEAP) and its member organisations must prepare themselves for transformations in identity and approach, especially in an era shaped by Artificial Intelligence (AI), digital communication, and automation.

According to RISEAP president Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. Muslims cannot afford to be left behind as they must equip themselves with the necessary tools, literacy, and mindset to harness technology for the benefit of the ummah.

He said this during the officiation of the RISEAP International Youth Leadership Training 2025 at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) in Kota Kinabalu today, which was streamed live with the Sarawak Public Communication Unit’s (UKAS) Facebook.

Abang Johari, who is also the Premier of Sarawak, said RISEAP must harness technology for modernisation, digital da’wah, and readiness in facing the growing influence of AI.

“RISEAP envisions a future where traditional Islamic values are reinforced by smart technologies, where da’i are digitally empowered, and where our identity remains intact in the digital age,” he said.

At the same time, he also said that, against a backdrop of climate change, social and political conflict, and economic uncertainties, it is the responsibility of Muslims to work together with other faiths to merge ideas and build a world that benefits humanity.

Meanwhile, speaking on the programme, he hoped that its participants would gain knowledge, skills, and spiritual tools to carry their mission better—whether in their community, nation, or the digital world.

“To all participants, know that this is your moment—to rise, to lead, and to serve. Let us move forward together, guided by knowledge, sincerity, and brotherhood,” he said.
