KUCHING, Feb 12: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has attributed the grassroots leadership’s commitment to advancing Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu’s (PBB) sustainable development efforts as the reason for entrusting him to continue leading the party.
Expressing his gratitude to the party leadership, Abang Johari emphasised that the party’s core struggle must remain rooted in Sarawak’s interests within the framework of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
This comes after the positions of PBB president, two deputy presidents, and two senior vice presidents were left uncontested at this year’s triennial convention.
“This reflects the grassroots leadership’s dedication to furthering PBB’s mission of sustainable development while forming a team that inspires public confidence.
“This is a mandate for PBB’s leadership, in collaboration with our Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) partners, to continuously assess the benefits we have gained and to chart the future of Sarawak—and Malaysia—within the MA63 framework,” he said.
He made these remarks in an exclusive interview with Sarawak Tribune and Suara Sarawak at Wisma Bapa Malaysia today.
Abang Johari also expressed optimism that the strong unity within PBB’s leadership, coupled with the support from GPS component parties, will enable them to fulfill their mandate effectively.
All 82 party branches across Sarawak unanimously endorsed Abang Johari’s leadership, leading to his uncontested retention as president.
The party’s top leadership remains largely unchanged, with deputy presidents Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan retained without contest.
Similarly, Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof and Dato Sri Stephen Rundi Utom will continue serving as senior vice presidents.
The 16th PBB Convention is set to take place over three days, from Feb 14 to 16, at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK). — DayakDaily
