KUCHING, Aug 2: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to soft launch Sarawak’s ‘White House’, the new administrative building in Petra Jaya, this Monday (Aug 4), which also coincides with his 75th birthday.

The white-coloured structure, which has become popularly referred to as the Sarawak White House due to its architectural resemblance to the iconic American building, will serve as the Premier’s new administrative office.

Abang Johari had previously clarified that the building is not a residence, but purely a facility for government administrative functions.

Located strategically on the hills of Petra Jaya overlooking the Sarawak River and near the Sarawak Legislative Assembly Complex, the building marks a significant step in Sarawak’s effort to modernise and centralise its governance infrastructure.

Although an official name has yet to be announced, the Premier had said that the building’s design reflects Sarawak’s aspirations to be a region with sound governance, strong institutions and global outlook.

The new administrative building is coming close to a completion with a large building at least three storeys high, flanked by two double-storey structures on either side. – DayakDaily
