KUCHING, Oct 22: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will highlight the State’s rapid progress in the clean energy and semiconductor industries at the upcoming 47th ASEAN Summit on Oct 27.
Abang Johari said Sarawak aims to leverage the platform to share its achievements in these strategic sectors, including initiatives that integrate artificial intelligence (AI) to drive innovation across the economy.
“Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has requested Sarawak to showcase its experiences and milestones in developing the clean energy and semiconductor sectors, which are integral to the State’s vision for a new economy.
“The highlights will include leveraging AI as a catalyst for growth and promoting the adoption of AI technologies across various industries,” he said when met by reporters after officiating the opening of the International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak 2025 (IDECS25) at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today.
Abang Johari noted that the presence of United States President Donald Trump at the summit is expected to provide valuable perspectives on the evolving geopolitical and economic landscape in the Asia-Pacific region.
“The investment climate has been somewhat affected by the tariff measures implemented during President Trump’s administration, which disrupted trade and investment flows across the region,” he said.
The Premier expressed hope that ASEAN leaders would use the summit as a platform for constructive discussions to address economic challenges arising from such policies.
“I hope ASEAN leaders can deliberate wisely to overcome the economic issues brought about by these tariff policies,” he added. — DayakDaily
