KUCHING, June 15: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has revealed that algae-based sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) produced in Sarawak will be used in offshore helicopter services.
Abang Johari disclosed that Hornbill Skyways Sdn Bhd (HSSB) and Petronas Dagangan Berhad (PDB) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) focusing on cooperation and collaboration for the use of SAF in offshore helicopter services.
“The MOU signed on May 23, 2023 during Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (Lima) demonstrates the State’s shared commitment to environmental sustainability
“I am particularly delighted to announce that Sarawak has taken a pioneering step by exploring microalgae as a potential source of renewable energy, and the world’s first SAF produced using algae will be utilised in this collaboration.
“Through this innovation, we will not only drive our economy, but it also represents a significant contribution towards achieving our green economy agenda for 2030,” the Premier said before witnessing the signing of a contract between HSSB and Petronas and its associated Petroleum Arrangement Contractors (PACs), as well as the signing of a technical services agreement between HSSB and HAS International Sdn Bhd (HAS) today at a hotel here.
The PACs involve Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd, Sarawak Shell Berhad, SapuraOMV Upstream (Sarawak) Inc, Mubadala Energy (SK320) Ltd, JX Nippon Oil and Gas Exploration (Malaysia) Ltd, and PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP).
Among others present at the event were Deputy Premier of Sarawak Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Sarawak Ministry of Transport (MOTS) Deputy Minister (Aviation and Road) Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, HSSB chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain, and HSSB chief executive officer (CEO) Captain Miron Kumer Ganguly. — DayakDaily
