KUCHING, Aug 18: If the economy remains strong, the Sarawak government will extend the Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS) electricity bill discount until December, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Abang Johari assures that as long as the Sarawak government has the financial means, the public will be able to continue enjoying the utility subsidies.
āThe previous subsidy has finished in June. We will see how it goes with our economy. If it remains (positive) like this, then we will extend it until December,ā he told a press conference held at Sebuyau Chalet in Sebuyau today.
He was responding to a question asked by reporters if the Sarawak government would continue to provide subsidies for electricity bills for domestic, commercial and industrial users.
He added that he would also need to refer the matter to the State Financial Secretary to see if Sarawak has the financial strength for it.
In February, Abang Johari announced that the Sarawak government would continue to subsidise 2 to 25 per cent of electricity bills for the first six month of 2023. ā DayakDaily
