KUCHING, April 30: The strategic collaborations between Sarawak and leading industry players in the United Kingdom (UK) will transform Sarawak from a mere consumer into a creator of cutting-edge technology.
In a TVS news report, Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg emphasised that the partnerships with innovation platforms such as CSA Catapult, Innovate UK, and Silicon Catalyst UK are unlocking major opportunities to establish a thriving innovation ecosystem that will elevate Sarawak’s role in the global semiconductor value chain.
“By harnessing the UK’s strengths in compound semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), and advanced research and development (R&D), we are laying a solid foundation to co-develop future-ready solutions.
“This includes the generation of intellectual property (IP) and the cultivation of world-class talent,” he stated after unveiling the KETEQ AI during his official visit to the CSA Catapult facility in Cardiff, Wales yesterday (April 29).
Abang Johari stressed that in today’s fast-evolving technological landscape, Sarawak must move beyond adaptation and take the lead in innovation.
This, he said, involves bold investments in frontier technologies and forming strategic global alliances to drive transformation.
“Our initiatives go beyond infrastructure and talent development — they represent a paradigm shift from being technology users to becoming technology creators,” he added.
He further noted that Sarawak’s ongoing strategic investments are expected to accelerate efforts to develop and own IP in high-impact sectors such as semiconductors, smart automation, and AI.
The Premier emphasised that this close collaboration with the UK not only strengthens international ties but also positions Sarawak as a significant player in global technological development — paving the way for a robust and sustainable digital economy. — DayakDaily
