KUCHING, July 25: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has encouraged youths to learn about hydrogen technology, sharing how he recently introduced a book on clean energy to young Sarawakians.
He said he had recommended ‘Hydrogen Revolution: Blueprint for the Future of Clean Energy’ by scientist Marco Alverà during his recent engagement with youths at the Sarawak Day Townhall in Sibu.
“I told young people that they must know how to evaluate and make use of new energy based on hydrogen.
“I shared with them a book called ‘Hydrogen Revolution: Blueprint for the Future of Clean Energy’ by the scientist Marco Alverà,” he said when officiating at the 126th Baram Regatta in Marudi today, broadcast live by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) on Facebook.
Abang Johari said the book explores the potential of hydrogen as a clean energy source and the various processes involved in producing hydrogen, including through electrolysis and other methods.
He said understanding such scientific developments would be important for the younger generation as Sarawak moves towards new economic sectors driven by science, technology and innovation.
Citing the methane gas discovery at Adong Kechil in the Miri-Marudi area as an example, he said the resource could be further developed beyond gas extraction by producing higher-value products such as ammonia and methanol.
“The gas that we extract can be used to produce ammonia and methanol. Ammonia can then be processed into fertiliser, and this will strengthen the foundation of our economy,” he said. — DayakDaily
