“2024 was a good year for Sarawak in terms of our economic performance.

“We are the top five states in Malaysia that have performed very well for our economy. For our exports, Sarawak is the fourth highest exporting state in Malaysia to our trade partners.

“In other words, Sarawak has achieved success in our economic development in 2024 and our income has also increased as we have achieved RM14.2 billion in revenue.

“With this, we hope we will flourish even more in 2025. This will enhance our economy, and we can focus on the new economy,” Abang Johari said in his speech at the Annual Chinese New Year Gathering 2025 for the United Chinese Association Sibu Division (UCA Sibu) in Sibu today.

He also shared that as part of efforts to advance Sarawak’s green economy and boost hydrogen exports, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has invited the Premier to engage in discussions with Japan’s Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on ammonia production using hydrogen as a key raw material.

By May next year, Malaysia and Japan is expected to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for cooperation between Japan and Malaysia where Sarawak is expected to play an important role on behalf of Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Sarawak has already established strong bilateral ties with China, as evidenced by the successful export of methanol to the country.

The Premier expressed optimism that these ties will continue to strengthen, with numerous untapped opportunities for further collaboration between Sarawak and China.

Also present at the Annual CNY Gathering were Deputy Premier Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, Minister of Culture, Arts and Tourism of Malaysia Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, UCA Sibu president Lau Ing Siong, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kuching Xing Weiping, Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Datuk Dr Haji Annuar Rapaee, Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, and other distinguished guests. – DayakDaily
