KUCHING, Nov 24: Sarawak’s drive to reclaim its rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) has never been about seeking separation—it is about asserting rightful entitlements that strengthen shared development.
During the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Pemuda Armada Appreciation and Charity Dinner on Sunday (Nov 23), Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg emphasised that MA63 represents the very essence of the nation’s formation, affirming Sarawak’s position as an equal partner dedicated to advancing together in an atmosphere of peace, prosperity, and harmony.
“When I speak about MA63, it does not mean we intend to be independent. Absolutely not. We have already decided that Sarawak is part of Malaysia.
“Even in the song Ibu Pertiwiku, it is clearly stated that Sarawak is part of Malaysia. Our struggle is rooted in that principle, and it aligns with the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) stance of ‘Sarawak First’, because we must always safeguard our region’s interests,” he said during the event, as reported by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas).
At the same time, he encouraged the party’s youth wing to carry this torch of struggle forward for the years ahead.
“We must nurture successors with vision and foresight, who are capable of defending the rights enshrined in MA63, which is now firmly embedded within the Federal Constitution,” he said.
Among those present were Sarawak Deputy Premier and PBB deputy president, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas; Minister of Food Industry, Commodities, and Regional Development and PBB senior vice-president, Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom; Minister of Works and PBB secretary-general, Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi; Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodities, and Regional Development and PBB Youth Chief, Datuk Martin Ben; and PBB Sarawak Deputy Youth Chiefs, Dato Lukanisman Awang Sauni and Allan Siden Geramong. — DayakDaily
