KUCHING, July 22: Sarawak’s high income status bestowed by the World Bank has come seven years earlier than targeted, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Abang Johari said he believed that the status will continue to encourage the administration and the people of Bumi Kenyalang to work even harder so that the income of each household can be increased.
“I am confident that in the next seven years until 2030 the State’s income will continue to increase with the expansion of the revenue collection base through initiatives under the green economy,” said Abang Johari in his speech during 60th anniversary Sarawak Independence celebration held at Padang Merdeka today.
According to Abang Johari, Sarawak under the leadership of previous State government has succeeded in expanding the State’s revenue from an agricultural economy to an economy based on manufacturing.
He pointed out that since 2017, this continued to be expanded through the “revenue engineering” initiative which has doubled the State’s revenue.
“We may not realise it but the World Bank is watching our achievements as an emerging economy.
“As everyone may already know that the World Bank has recently categorized Sarawak as a high-income State,” he added. — DayakDaily
