KUCHING, Sept 15: Sarawak always takes into account the spirit of unity and mutual respect between races when putting forth ideas and views for the State to move forward, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He said the term ‘Segulai Sejalai’ has become the basis for creating mutual understanding so that all people regardless of race and religious background can equally enjoy the progress and prosperity of the State.
“I sincerely hope and pray that our Malaysia will continue to progress and step boldly forward with the spirit of national unity so that the country continues to be respected in the regional and international arena.
“May Malaysia in general and Sarawak in particular continue to be blessed by Allah SWT with continued goodness and prosperity and ease all matters in developing Malaysia to a higher level and continue to shine with success,” he said in a Malaysia Day message today.
Abang Johari also described this year’s Malaysia Day celebration theme ‘Malaysia Madani: The Commitment of Unity Fulfils Hope’ as a call for all Malaysians to ‘duduk sama rendah, berdiri sama tinggi’ (sit or stand at the same height).
He opined that the theme was chosen for the Malaysia Day celebration as an effort to invite all citizens to appreciate the meaning and basis for a successful independent society.
The Malaysia Day celebration will take place at Stadium Perpaduan, Kuching at 7pm tomorrow (Sept 16).
