BETONG, Jan 25: The rural population’s need for faster internet connection proves reflects their growing technological literacy and adaptability to the new economy, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Speaking at the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Betong Zone delegates’ conference today, Abang Johari said this also reflects the effectiveness of the digital transformation initiatives introduced by the Sarawak government.
“The need for broadband in the interior reflects that rural people are already technologically literate and skilled in the new economy.
“I am confident that with such an increase, Sarawak will become the most advanced State in Malaysia by 2030,” he said, as reported by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS).
The PBB president also touched on the need for increased electricity supply, saying that things are now different, especially in terms of the economy.
“Indeed, rural areas now need stronger electricity. The economic landscape has changed because in the past, we only connected electricity to homes, but now the population is asking for it to be improved.
“This is a sign that the living standards of our rural community has improved,” he said.
With that, he reaffirmed the Sarawak government’s commitment to developing rural areas so that its residents can benefit from the State’s development and be on par with their urban counterparts. — DayakDaily
