Premier receives Int’l Hydropower Association Blue Planet Prize 2025 for Bakun HEP

KUCHING, Oct 21: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg today received the prestigious International Hydropower Association (IHA) Blue Planet Prize 2025, which was presented by Sarawak Energy group chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Sharbini Suhaili at a ceremony held at the Satria Pertiwi Complex here.

According to a TVS report, this achievement is a global recognition of Sarawak’s commitment to developing world-class sustainable hydropower through the Bakun Hydroelectric Plant (Bakun HEP).

Also present were Sarawak Minister for Utility and Telecommunications Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, and Deputy Minister for Utility (Sarawak Energy and PETROS) and Sarawak Energy chairman Datuk Ibrahim Baki.

The award was officially presented to Sarawak Energy on Sept 9 in Paris, France, during the International Forum on Pumped Storage Hydropower, which gathered global energy industry leaders.

The IHA Blue Planet Prize is awarded to hydropower projects that demonstrate excellence in sustainable development.

The prize is awarded based on an assessment using the Hydropower Sustainability Standard, its achievement of good practice across all topics and whether it has undergone a public consultation. — DayakDaily
