KUCHING, March 17: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has been officially reappointed as the Pro-Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) for the term March 15, 2026 to March 14, 2029.
According to Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), the reappointment was endorsed by the Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, who serves as Unimas Chancellor, marking the Premier’s fourth term since 2017.
The official letter of reappointment was handed over during a courtesy visit by a Unimas delegation led by its Board of Directors chairman, Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Sulong Matjeraie, at the Satria Pertiwi Complex today.
Unimas Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit praised the Premier’s continued support for the university, noting that his leadership has been instrumental in advancing Unimas’s academic and institutional development.
The delegation also presented the university’s latest achievements in research, academics, and institutional development during the visit.
Present at the session were the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Johan Shamsudin Sabaruddin and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Fitri Suraya Mohamad Hapni Joblie. — DayakDaily
