KUCHING, May 27: The Federal Ministry of Transport (MOT) will conduct a study on the proposed Trans-Borneo railway linking Sarawak with Indonesia and possibly Brunei.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said it would help to boost the region’s economic activities, especially in the logistic sector.

According to Abang Johari, they were briefed on MOT’s proposal to establish the Trans-Borneo railway earlier today.

“MOT will make a study on the proposed Trans-Borneo railway that will also lead to Sabah and connect to parts of Kalimantan in Indonesia.

“There also must be a discussion between Malaysia, Indonesia, and Brunei because it may involve all three countries,” he told a press conference after chairing the State Development Coordination Committee Meeting (SDCCM) held in Lawas today.

He added, this project, if materialised, will be under the federal government’s jurisdiction. ā€” DayakDaily
