KUCHING, Nov 5: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg plans to develop Kapit based on the design of Bergen city in Norway.
Abang Johari said the master plan for Kapit’s development is still being planned by consultants.
“I have yet to inform Kapit MP Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi on this matter. But if you want to look at Kapit’s future, look into a city named Bergen in Norway,” he said during Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Sarawak Sibu Zone Special Convention in Sibu which was streamed via the GPS Facebook page today.
According to Abang Johari, Bergen is a beautiful small city and Kapit is very similar to it with its hilly topography and thus, should be preserved.
“I will be in communication with leaders in Kapit when it (master plan) is completed on how we will develop Kapit because Kapit has plenty of hills. Even better than Hong Kong,” he added.
Apart from that, Abang Johari said, there are also plans to develop three areas, namely Belawai, Bruit, and Igan, which are now connected by bridges, into tourism areas due to their location by the sea.
“These will become tourism attraction areas and when the tourists want to come here, fret not, because we have our own airline to transport them,” he said. — DayakDaily
