KUCHING, Nov 20: Perhaps the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver, recently conferred upon him by the Emperor of Japan, reflects the rising of Sarawak, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said today.
Speaking at the Civil Service Day 2025 celebration at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), Abang Johari emphasised that the prestigious honour is not his alone, but a testament to the dedication, professionalism, and excellence of the Sarawak Civil Service.
“Because of a disciplined, innovative, and forward-looking civil service, Sarawak can confidently embrace ambitious regional and global initiatives, strengthen digitalisation, foster collaboration, and translate opportunities into tangible benefits for our people,” he said.
Highlighting Sarawak’s growing international profile, Abang Johari noted that the State is increasingly invited to share its perspectives on major global platforms, engaging directly with world leaders and industry experts.
“This underscores global confidence in Sarawak’s leadership in renewable energy, sustainability, economic development, and regional cooperation. Our participation shows that Sarawak is not just a spectator but a valued contributor shaping shared solutions for the future,” he added.
The Premier also reaffirmed Sarawak’s commitment to climate-resilient and sustainable development, integrating environmental considerations into economic planning and infrastructure projects to reduce carbon emissions, enhance stewardship, and strengthen long-term resilience.
“Among our key ambitions is for Sarawak to become the ‘Battery of ASEAN’, a regional leader in renewable energy and battery production.
“Leveraging our strategic location in Borneo, abundant natural resources, renewable energy capacity, and technological expertise, we are positioning Sarawak as a global player, driving innovation, attracting investment, creating high-value jobs, and building a sustainable economy,” he said.
Abang Johari added that Sarawak aims to emerge as a regional powerhouse in energy transition, emerging technologies, biodiversity conservation, and the global hydrogen economy, while ensuring growth remains inclusive and benefits every Sarawakian.
“Realising this vision requires disciplined planning, strong governance, and seamless coordination. These responsibilities rest firmly with the dedicated Sarawak Civil Service,” he reminded. — DayakDaily
