KUCHING, Sept 2: A new social approach needed to address loneliness among Sarawak’s ageing society.
Deputy Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the loneliness issue among an ageing society has resulted in them being scammed due to their need for companionship.
According to him, loneliness is a trap and various approaches are needed on this matter in order to avoid people from taking advantage of this situation.
“That is why we must plan our social policy so that the community does not feel too alone which will result in them being scamme,” he said during closing ceremony of State level of ‘Jelajah Anti-Scam Kebangsaan 2023’ held at Borneo Cultures Museum here today.
Meanwhile Abang Johari pointed out that when appointed to take over as the Premier of Sarawak in 2017, he decided to launch the digital economic approach despite knowing the risks that comes along with it.
He said that digital technology is like a knife which can be either be used to help or harm someone and it depends on the users consciousness on how to use it.
He pointed out that usage of technology is crucial these days with the advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robotics.
“That is why in this mater, when Sarawak launched its digital economic approach, we understand the risks but the benefits outweighs the risks.
“In terms of risks, we have gathered our experts such as cybersecurity analysts and cyber analysts to help us.
“We have are also working together with the Federal government to educate Sarawakians on the usage of technology and understanding the risks involved,” he added. — DayakDaily
