KUCHING, Feb 16: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has likened the proximity of the Chinese and Islamic cemeteries in Miri to symbolise a true unity government.
Abang Johari made the comment in jest during a press conference following his work visit to the Miri Port Authority (MPA) today in Kuala Baram.
“Just now we had a good cruise with a very good view of Miri. In Lutong, there is a church on one side and a mosque on the other,” he said.
He went on to say that when Muslims pray on Friday, they may use the parking lot of the church compound, whereas on Sunday, Christians may use the parking space at the mosque.
“Even if they mati pun, they are side by side. You have the Muslim cemetery and then you have the Chinese cemetery, side by side.
“This is really the unity government. Even mati pun, aman dan makmur (peace and harmony),” he quipped.
Abang Johari then stated that it demonstrates that Miri is a very peaceful and harmonious city.
Among others present at the press conference were Deputy Premier of Sarawak Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Deputy Premier of Sarawak Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan. — DayakDaily
