KUCHING, Dec 30: The Sarawak government’s acquisition of MASwings airline is now expected to be finalised by the first quarter of 2025 due to discrepancies in asset valuation, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Speaking to reporters after officiating the groundbreaking ceremony for the Che Hia Khor Moral Uplifting Society Sarawak (CHKMUS) Kidney Foundation Medical and Commercial Building at Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho today, Abang Johari clarified that an agreement has been reached in principle between the Ministry of Transport Sarawak (MOTS) and the Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM).
“The only remaining issue is asset valuation. We have conducted our own valuation, and they have theirs.
“To resolve this, we have engaged a third party to estimate the value of MASwings’ assets,” he said.
Abang Johari further explained the necessity of involving an independent evaluator.
“Our side has its audit, and they have theirs. Since there’s no consensus, we have left it to the third party to adjudicate. Negotiations are still ongoing,” he added.
Despite the delay, the Premier expressed optimism that the matter would be resolved soon, noting that the acquisition is a government-to-government process. — DayakDaily
