KUCHING, March 3: An atmosphere of reflection and compassion filled the breaking of fast and congregational prayers ceremony with the Premier of Sarawak as Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) extended its care to 16 orphans and special needs children from Juma’ani Welfare Centre at the Satria Pertiwi Complex here on Monday (March 2).
According to Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), joy and excitement radiated from the children as they received contributions personally presented by the Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johar Tun Openg, shortly after the breaking of fast.
More than material aid, the contributions symbolised the Sarawak government’s steadfast commitment to supporting vulnerable communities, particularly during the blessed month of Ramadan.
The Premier’s presence underscored the State leadership’s dedication to staying close to the people while nurturing values of compassion, inclusivity and unity across Sarawak’s diverse society.
Earlier in the evening, he joined distinguished guests in performing the Maghrib prayer in congregation. The programme continued with the Isyak and Tarawih prayers before concluding with a moreh gathering, fostering a spirit of fellowship and goodwill.
Also in attendance were the Premier’s daughter Dayang Norjihan, Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, DBKU and Islamic Affairs), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Deputy Minister for Utility (Sarawak Energy and PETROS) Datuk Ibrahim Baki, Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, Deputy Minister for Transport Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya, chief political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak Dato Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman; DBKU Mayor Dato Hilmy Othman, heads of departments, and other invited guests. — DayakDaily
