KUCHING, April 9: In a heartfelt address today, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg invites everyone to pray for enduring harmony in Sarawak.

He said this in his Hari Raya Aidilfitri message for 2024, stating that it is crucial to avoid behaviours that sow division among members of society, emphasising a collective focus as essential for maintaining social cohesion.

“Let us all pray that the atmosphere of harmony will continue in the Bumi Kenyalang that we love because it is our pillar of strength in making the State a peaceful and prosperous region,” said Abang Johari.

To him, it is customary for the State’s diverse community to come together during Hari Raya, sharing happiness and friendship across races and religions, akin to other festivities in the region.

“It has become common to share the joy with other races with the practice of visiting which is similar to Chinese New Year, Gawai Dayak, Christmas, or Deepavali.

“Let us all continue to work together in unifying our diverse society and not be influenced by others’ behaviour who tend to see differences than unity,” he said.

Abang Johari and his wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, also took the opportunity to wish everyone good health and a Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri. — DayakDaily
