KUCHING, Nov 8: i-CATS University College is forging stronger ties with overseas partners as part of its efforts to produce graduates who are globally competitive and ready to drive Sarawak’s knowledge economy.
Speaking at the i-CATS University College Convocation Ceremony 2025 at Hikmah Exchange Event Centre today, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg highlighted the institution’s growth from its early beginnings to a cornerstone of Sarawak’s human capital development.
“Through partnerships with institutions in Turkiye, China, Australia and Indonesia, i-CATS is showcasing Sarawak’s capability to cultivate graduates who are both globally relevant and locally grounded.
“These collaborations are more than academic linkages; they reflect Sarawak’s capacity to educate its people to world-class standards,” he noted.
The Premier added that such initiatives align with the state’s Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, which aims to shift Sarawak from a resource-based economy to one driven by knowledge, technology, and innovation.
“Our strength lies not only in natural resources but also in our ability to produce a generation that stands firmly on its intellectual capability. i-CATS embodies that vision,” he added.
Abang Johari emphasised that as Sarawak advances in high-value sectors such as hydrogen, automation, aerospace, and renewable energy, institutions like i-CATS are crucial in producing skilled talent to meet future demands. — DayakDaily
